Here's How it Works
The "International 5k" concept was born (we like to think) when Paul's sister decided she wanted to participate in our local 5K fundraising race here in Paducah, KY, USA. The only problem was... she lives half-way around the world in Switzerland. Never allowing such a small geographic detail deter us from our goals, Project AIDS Orphan developed a new concept: the International 5K.
Over the past couple of years, several runners have asked to run in their own location to support the children. Some of these "small town" events have grown into formal races. The One World Run is completely corporate sponsored and the "main event" is held in Paducah, Kentucky. The One World Run was held in 2010 on 6 continents, 9 countries, and 18 cities. Every year, the race grows and the AIDS orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya directly benefit.
It is very simple. Register for the race here on our website. Pay the entry fee (which goes directly toward humanitarian aid for orphans in rural Kenya).
On the day of the race, runners from around the world get together in their respective cities, states, countries and continents to participate. You may participate as an individual, or organize a group to run for this great cause. Everyone runs a standard 5k and feel great about what they've accomplished. Keeping a community in Kenya healthy while keeping yourself healthy.
We encourage people to form an organized One World Run Event. Contact Us and we will help. When applicable, Project AIDS Orphan will send out race organization packets complete with entry forms, tshirts, and even awards. If you are organizing a true OWR event, you may keep times, declare winners, give away trophies or medals, etc. In our experience, this is a great event to organize with running clubs, youth groups, non-profit organizations, etc.
We also encourage everyone who participates to send us their story and send us some photos of raceday.
