	Post-election violence has quickly plunged Kisumu into a humanitarian crisis. Public transport has been paralyzed due to illegal roadblocks and acute shortage of fuel. Some petrol stations have been vandalized and fuel tanks destroyed. A power blackout has worsened the situation in most parts of the town since the chaos started. Kenya Power and Lighting Company officials say some transformers were burnt during the riots. Without electricity, food and roads, Kisumu is on the brink of a catastrophe. 	Most of us cannot remember what it was like to buy our first pair of shoes, because we buy shoes whenever we need or want them. For many of the AIDS orphans in Kandaria, they can’t remember, because they have never owned a new pair of shoes. Shoes protect children’s feet from cuts and scrapes, parasitic worms and are required for attendance to school. Thanks for making a wonderful memory for one of the 300 AIDS orphans in Kandaria. 	Antiretroviral therapy (ART) can make the difference between someone living a few years with HIV and someone living a few decades with HIV. The longer a parent lives the longer they can raise, care for and love their children. 	One in every four children in the Nyanza province of Kenya will die of malaria before they reach the age of five. Long lasting insecticide-treated bed nets (which can protect children for up to five years) have been confirmed as one of the most useful interventions that can curb the spread of malaria and save lives in Kenya.
